HERITAGE CRIME: CAN WE STEAL FROM OUR NEIGHBOURS?

·        Thefts of lead and other architectural materials, vandalism, illicit metal detecting and wreck looting, museum thefts and the trade in stolen antiquities – how prevalent are these problems in Scotland, and is there anything effective we can do about them?  Does heritage crime exist, or is it simply the way in which heritage professionals see the world of criminality? 

·        Hear about recent work in England from those who have been leading it, and take the opportunity to discuss the situation in Scotland.  How much can we learn and how different is the situation north of the Border?  How good is our understanding of the issue here?  What should be our priorities?  Do we need a co-ordinated programme, targeted thematic action or both?  Are there quick wins and how do we capture the attention of potential partners?
