Art of Industry

On Friday 24 June Woodhorn Museum, in Northumberland is holding a one day symposium for the National Coal Mining Museum for England to celebrate the relationship between art and Britain's industrial heritage.

For centuries art has played a vital role in recording economic, technological and social change. Today it has become one of the most powerful outlets for those involved in our key industries to represent themselves, their experiences and communities. Presentations from William Feaver, art critic and trustee of the Ashington Group Collection, and Dr Robert McManners and Gillian Wales, mining art historians and authors, plus contribution from the National Railway Museum, Leeds Art Gallery and the National Coal Mining Museum for England.
