Sir Nigel will haul all scheduled trains at Bo'ness on Friday 22nd April and visitors can take the opportunity to ride behind this famous engine.
Built by the London and North Eastern Railway in 1937, the 100th Gresley Pacific, Sir Nigel is a 4-6-2 LNER A4 Pacific class engine and holds the post-war record for steam traction at 112 miles per hour. It carries the name of its creator, the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Eastern Railway.
Its sister engine Mallard can be seen at the National Railway Museum’s satellite museum at Shildon in County Durham.
Sir Nigel will haul a train departing Bo’ness at 10.45, 12.15, 14.05 & 15.35 and standard fares apply. On 22-25 April, as it is Easter, all kids travelling will receive a complimentary tasty Easter treat. Wear your Easter bonnet to be in with the chance to win a prize and have a go at our prize Easter Egg trail.
The Station Coffee shop will be open offering its usual delicious selection of hot and cold food, drinks and ice creams and visit the gift shop for a memento of the occasion. The model railway will be open at Bo’ness and visitors can enjoy the Scottish Railway Exhibition open for its new 7 day week opening season.
New exhibits Gordon Highlander and the Duke of Sutherland’s saloon will be on show along with the two large halls of locos, wagons and other railway related items and a railway themed activity area for children.
