A two-day conference to be held in association with The International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage and the South Georgia Association with generous support from Institut Minos on 7-9 September 2011 at the Verdant Works, West Henderson’s Wynd, Dundee, Scotland.
One of the principal aims of the South Georgia Heritage Trust (SGHT) is to preserve, protect and promote an understanding of the historical heritage of South Georgia in relation to the island’s whaling, sealing and maritime history. This conference will explore aspects of recording, researching, interpreting and managing industrial heritage sites with the aim of informing future heritage strategy on South Georgia.
Comparative perspectives from other remote polar and sub-polar regions of the world will serve to set South Georgia in the wider context of industrial heritage research, protection and management.
